SABnzbd 0.4.11 is a newsgroup binary downloader for Windows. It is an open-source project that also supports Mac OS X and Linux.
Unlike many other newsgroup readers/usenet readers out there, SABnzbd serves only for one purpose: to download the binary files attached to newsgroup posts. Downloading files from newsgroups is arguably the oldest way of downloading files from the Internet. All the revolution of downloading movies, music, TV shows, etc, all that started in the newsgroups. SABnzbd even gives new life to the practice. Instead of building a single application, the developer focused on making SABnzbd work from your web browser. So, basically, what you are installing is a plug-in for your browser that allows you to download files from the Usenet straight from your browser. The application is really basic. Servers can easily be added from the Configuration menu. When you want do download something, you simply point an application, an .NZB file and it will do the rest. It will even show you the real-time progress of how your download is going. You can, of course, play with the settings to choose where your files will be downloaded and specify certain actions for completed files. To use SABnzbd you DO need access to a Usenet server. There are some free ones, but to really take advantage of this great application, you might want to spend a couple of bucks in a service with good retention. Graphically, I noticed that SABnzbd resembles the user interfaces of networking devices like Routers and Switches, based on HTTP.
